Still having issues getting broadcast packets to work over PPTP...

I'm really happy with my PFSense router setup. I took an old 266MHz box with 64MB of RAM and made it into a PFSense router. Some of you may have known this box as schiachee.tumaz.com. It's doing a great job of traffic shaping (has greatly improved Vonage quality) and is providing better security for my wireless network (since I can't use WPA given my physical setup)

I have my wireless clients segregated from the physical network since the wireless network is insecure. I then use a VPN when I'm on wireless to jump to the wired 10.1.0.0 network. Works like a charm on Linux and Mac OS> (Don't know about Windows because I always have that inside VMWare anyway)

Works great when I am away from home, too! I connected to my VPN when I was visiting Boston last month, and could access my firewalled G4 perfectly.

So what's my problem? Apple's Bonjour service / ZeroConf networking / Avahi zeroconf. That is, the .local domain name doesn't work over PPTP.

In fact, if I connect to the VPN,  I can't ping broadcast 10.1.255.255 even though I have a 10.1.*.* address...

I posted on PFSense's forums but nobody seems to care...

I may try to fix this again this weekend. We'll see...
